Contacts imported from a previous phone do not display when selecting contacts to add as shortcuts - HTC Velocity

I recently purchased a HTC Velocity (Gingerbread)and imported the contacts from my old phone over to the new Velocity. Some of these contacts were created way back on my first mobile, a Nokia 6110 and have been imported from phone to phone over the years. I want to have one of the Home pages on my Velocity display shortcuts to my favourite called phone numbers, or messages. I have created two new folders called 'Direct Dial' and 'Direct Message' on this Home page. I then tap and hold on the Home page until Personalise is displayed, select Shortcut, select Person, and then select a particular person. However, the only contacts that are displayed here are my Facebook contacts imported from Facebook. If I access People direct through the menu, the Phonebook is displayed I can see ALL of my contacts then. Can anyone tell me why I can't see ALL of my contacts in this list, or how I can configure the phone to see ALL of my contacts?
