Getting the Astone MP 310 DT to recognise a RF modulator feed

Live in China. Satellite box via RCA component to RF modulator. RF out to Astone 310 RF IN - doesn't recognise feed. (no signal) Put same feed into Sony Bravia and auto tune and it finds it. (channel 13 - don't know bandwidth or frequency). Bravia auto tunes RF feed TV channels no problems. Astone box does not see any TV channels with same feed, have set country region to Australia > auto tune > no channels. Set China > auto tune > no channels.

Any ideas as to what else I can try would be welcome.

Nah, it sounds like the Astone doesn't recognise the modulation. You'll need to find out how the RF modulator is doing the modulating and make sure the Astone actually understands it.

Just as a test, does your Sony Bravia have an RF passthrough? Try plugging that passthrough into the Astone just to see what happens.

Cheers, Darren.

Darren,
Thanks for your answer. I thought that might be an issue about it not liking the modulation, which is why I put the direct antenna feed into the AStone as well - but still no channels.
I will have to check the Bravia, it has 2 RF female connectors on the back but the labels are in chinese as to what they are.

Chasing up how the RF modulator does the modulation will be nigh on impossible. Bought from a tech market with no circuit diagram or other details, I think the Brand name is in chinese characters.

thanks again for your suggestions, I am almost at the stage of thinking the RF in for the astone may be faulty as I can get it to see my wired network, display on the tv etc.

by the way the IT guys here (I work in an international school) enjoy your articles, reviews and programs in particular (Rockpod is a fav)so much that the only Aussie magazine the school now subscribes to is PC User.

No worries - sorry I couldn't suggest something that might work. Satellite broadcast standards are different to DVB-T or ATSC as it's more likely to be in China...
You can get composite out of the satellite box, right?

The Dream box satellite box has a composite RCA out, (yellow video, red and white audio) component video out (Red, Blue and Green) and computer monitor out (R5232). At the moment I run composite video straight to the TV. The main problem is that the Astone seems to only have RF in, (the HDMI, coaxial/spdif, and component/composite appear to be out only) so what ever I send to the Astone has to be in RF form. If the TV has a composite feed out, it would still need to go through a modulator to get into the Astone, if you were wondering about that route.

Not sure what the next problem solving step is but will try your TV RF through put to test the Astone first.

I know I am an atypical user of nmps, but it might be worthwhile adding input types to future reviews as I imagine that there would be other tinkerers out there like myself.

Thanks again for help so far.

"Any ideas as to what else I can try would be welcome" Very simple!!! Nothing! You are trying the digital tuner to see an analog signal
