In windows XP you can enable or disable the internet connection by clicking on Network Connections / local Area Connection, then right clicking to bring up a menu where you can disable or enable the internet connection. How do you do this in windows 7?

Click on the big ball, and type in the search bar Network and this should bring up various network options. Click on the preferred options and make your changes as required.
Right-click on Internet Access Icon in Task Bar (near clock>Open Network and Sharing Centre>Select your Internet connection (left click) and in that dialog box, Disable.

Thanks Bob. This is what I have done and now I'm in trouble. sometimes the internet works and others it won't. The troubleshooter tells me the cable is not plugged in or try another cable, both which have been done and checked. If I reboot into XP, I have no problems and then if I reboot back into Win 7 it will work. The modem is a Linksys wireless-G home gateway. It's got me baffled
