Specs
Amd Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.0GHz
Memory: 512MB PC3200 DDR
ATI Radeon X300 SE PCI-Express with 128MB DDR
Hard Drive: 160.0GB 7200RPM Serial ATA
Windows XP
The motherboard manufacturer is MSI, motherboard MS-7093, Albacore-GL6E, socket 939

It probably no longer handles the latest components. I would like to use it as a multimedia PC when not using my laptop, but I think I've neglected it for too long. Any advice would be really helpful.

Yep, afraid so. There are no Socket939 CPUs available any more. I'd say give it away to someone who can use it and start from scratch.

For "multimedia", I'd go something along the lines of a Core i5 processor - a 2400 or 2500 - but if you can wait a couple of months, we should see new Ivy Bridge-class components from Intel with greater performance and lower power drain.

Cheers, Darren.

The CPU is the most important component of a computer system. CPU is also known as the brain of the computer and all the important calculations and processing takes place in it. The CPU is directly inserted in the CPU socket on the motherboard. Web Streaming
