Java Auto Updater Problem

Java Auto Updater pops up a "User Account Control" window asking for an admin password which I enter. The window closes and then nothing happens - no update at least.

The next time I boot the system I get the same behaviour.

How do I solve this problem and get my installed version of Java updated?

By the way, how do I find out what version of Java is currently installed on this system?

Thanks.

Open your CONTROL PANEL and in there have a look for a icon or list called JAVA.

Open it and you have the JAVA CONTROL PANEL.

From there you can find out what you want including updating it and more.

Hope this helps.

OK thanks for that but...

I did as suggested and on the "Java Control Panel" clicked om "Update Now". This promted for an admin password which I entered and subsequentally opened a window called "Jave Update Available" so I clicked "Install" which results in the following error message: "Failed to download required installation files."

I looked on the Java website for help with this error message but no luck.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

The JAVA Control Panel will give you the details of which version is installed. For instance mine is: Version 6 Update 31 (build 1.6.0_31 b05)which i believe is the latest as of today 21/02/2012.

This information will also be listed in the Add or Remove Programs panel or Program Features in the Control Panel for Win 7.

Try changing the User Account Control Settings (UAC) to Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer (do not dim my desktop) or Never notify assuming that you are the Administrator.
