Slow browsing with Norton Internet Security

Since I installed Norton Internet Security my Surfing in Firefox and Internet Explorer has slowed down considerably. ie like stirring treacle!

Check to see that only one firewall and one virus checker is active.

Windows firewall is off windows defender is on

Try shutting down windows defender as well and see if this improves matters. I have had most trouble with multiple firewalls but I understand that multiple virus checkers can slow thing down as well.

How do I uninstall Defender not in Uninstall section?
Is it ok to leave it running?

Turned all things off in the options of Defender.

I am not too sure as I don't use it myself. I found this hint on a google search

"Go to services.msc, and disable it.

Then go to msconfig and uncheck it under the startup tab"

Services.msc and msconfig.msc are accesed via the Start menu and Run dialog box
