Identifying... No Internet Access

Hi I'm new to this site but after recent problems on my HP laptop thought I would come here to seek help.
The other day my Laptop was corrupted with a 'Windows 7 Internet Security 2012' virus that stopped me accessing any programs and disabled the internet. I think I managed to remove the virus by using a fake serial number provided online to 'buy' the security software the virus was promoting. Then I was able to run 'whole computer scan' using 'Avira free anit-virus' (which I later deleted after it missed the virus in the first place). Now since then my laptop can't connect to the wireless internet at home even though it says connected it also says 'identifying.... no internet access'. So from another computer I downloaded AVG 2011 and Avast free anit-virus software and ran scans to make sure computer was clean, still nothing. Also have tried restoring computer to a previous point in time but multiple attempts have failed after re-booting. I'm at a loss to work out why the internet still isn't working.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds to me that you may have removed quite a few files that keeps windows working NO THANKS to this (Windows 7 Internet Security 2012).Apparently it is a variant of the 2012 Name Changing Rogue which for some reason you were prompted to download.

This particular rogue would have told you about many severe security problems that you have within your computers OS and like all scams once you have run it, they whom ever they are will ask for payment to make it fully operable and from the sounds of it this is where you used the fake serial number. NOT WISE.

I am sorry to have to say this but believe from there irreparable damage has been done to your computers operating system and the only way out may be a reformat and complete fresh install.

Have a read of this link : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-win-7-internet-secu...

You can try some of their measures but the damage seems to have been done.

Always make sure that you have a legit AntiVirus Program and Anti Malware program running on your computer and always do a bit of research on it before you install.

There are many reasonable free ones with good ratings such as AVAST Antivirus Free and malware progs such as the free Malwarebytes Antimalware as well as quite a few others.

Only run one Antivirus Program on your computer as well as two at the same time usual will cause you problems as in conflicts, (one legit Antivirus Prog and then a legit Anti-Malware Prog).

Its not nice what has happened to you, but you may have been scammed or somehow got onto the wrong site while not having any security installed.

Yes I faced and beaten this virus on the bosses pc. If you use an antivirus to kill the virus, then you will end up with a completely unusable pc.
the fix - log in in safe mode. then try restoring to a pint before you were infected.
if this doesnt work, why not try booting form your windows disc, and performing a repair of your system.
This may work - but no promises.
The big problem with this particular virus is that most anti virus programs will not pick it up and will not stop it form installing. it seems to be able to overcome any uac type restrictions on your pc.

Thank you both or your quick responses.
I have had 'Avira anti-virus' installed on the laptop for a good 2 years without any problems but it obviously missed this virus. So after researching this particular virus most people said they used fake serial numbers to 'buy' it which tricks the virus into thinking you've bought it and I assumed it would disappear (how wrong).
Thanks for that link Frank, I'll give it a go and get back to you on hopefully a positive result. Otherwise I'll try finding the discs you talk about Peter.
Thanks

James

Thats what ended up being doing to solve the issue. Also got it cleaned which seems to have helped ease the over-heating too. Thanks for your help
