What is SM Bus? Device Manager now tells me that the driver is not installed. Maybe it doesn't matter.
Why is my USB2 driver not installed after a reformat? How do I get a USB2 driver because the scanner and memory stick no longer run as fast as they did. I run XP Pro.

 The SMBus Controller (or system bus controller) is part of the Intel chipset. It monitors your system board's temperature and voltage. Programs that read your hardware sensors need the controller.
The software to install it should have come with your motherboard. Contact your supplier or its web site for the software. If necessary, you might locate a generic smbus controller driver on the Intel.com site.
Microsoft Windows XP does support USB 2 but the drivers may be available as an update for XP from the Windows Update site.
Alternatively, check for third party USB 2 drivers that may have come with your scanner or memory stick.

JeffPosted: 09/07/2010 re: What's SM Bus controller? When I got SM Bus Controller yellow question mark in Device Manager I uninstalled the driver from there and rebooted. Found New Hardware Wizard came up so I inserted Motherboard CD and wizard found software and problem was solved.

It means u have a little problem in "BIOS" settings,
1:press del or tab while booting, the BIOS menu will be apears.
2:now go to the "Integrated periferals" find USB related menus and enable them.
This is a little process,
u can also use:
1: go to bios
2:press enter in the "LOAD OPTIMIZED DEFAULTS" save and exit.
May be this will helps.

(In general leave it to Windows to look after itself. If the PC seems to be working okay, leave it at that. I was able to find a driver for the SM bus using the latest version of drivermax. It did the hunting and pecking for me and found a driver.

Like going into the Device Manager, DELETE/REMOVE everything under USB functions.
REBOOT your system.
Let XP 'detect and install' ALL of the USB functions, let XP 'reset' these by itself.
My other solution is that you 'use' SYSTEM RESTORE, set back to a date before your USB problem began?
Perferrably, a date co-inciding with a 'system check-point'.
If you have 'installed' any program between THEN, and NOW, you will lose those, maybe one being the very cause of your 'main problem', the loss of your USB functions?
If there was ONLY the one, problem solved?
DO NOT 're-install' that program, as the problem will return.
Either way, both are simple solutions.
You don't know if they will work, unless you do try them.
That's about the best advice I can give you.
