How do I get a 24 hour clock?

Tuesday, 04 September, 2001

Here is a BIG TIME question. Can I change the time to represent a 24hr clock? If so how?

Ric Smit, ,

You can Ric, but don't ask me to tell you exactly how. If you go to Control Panel, Regional Settings, Time, Time Style you can fiddle with the settings and get it into 24 hour mode, but it isn't intuitive. I did it and I don't know how. If you work it out, please tell me how because my system is now set on 24 hour time.

The setting you want seems to be HH:mm:ss

Go onto control panel, go to regional, Here you can change the time and date format ie; 24/12hrs / currency ie; £'s $'s €'s / location & keyboard layout, as U.K and U.S differ.

re: How do I get a 24 hour clock?
I think he's talking about 24 actual hours on the clock itself not 12. I've seen them before in the UK.

re: How do I sget a 24 hour clock?
Easy, just change your time code in control panel from hh:dd:mm to HH:ss:tt when the lower case h is set to the higher case, H then you have a 24 hour clock on all Windows settings. Its all in your international time and date settings, also language etc... are controlled from the same place.

re: How do I get a 24 hour clock?
It's really easy. On XP Too, If you just go into the Regional Settings and change the Standards and Formats to the UK and leave your location at US then you'll be set. I don't know if anyone else has said this because I didn't read through the page fully.

re: How do I get a 24 hour clock? (change other way - from 24hr to 12 hr)
To clarify a response listed earlier... about changing from 24 to 12 hour system.

I had a spybot infection and it changed my clock to 24hr. so I went into the control panel, regional settings and changed the setting TO UK and then back to US. That seemed to help reset it.

re: How do I get a 24 hour clock?
you can use the English US settings (XP) but you will need to customize this and change the time format to HH:mm:ss or H:mm:ss

re: How do I get a 24 hour clock?
I had a blonde moment with HTC Touch time settings... I don't like 12 hour clock... Why read extra letters when you can tell the time of the day by the hour? :), so I was trying to set it to 24 hours (hh:mm:ss)... that did not work! :(... Went on internet and this thread opened my eyes... so that is why I am posting here...

Here are the time settings and differences between them on HTC Touch Windows Mobile from Rogers:
h:mm:ss = 3:52:55 PM and 3:52:55 AM
hh:mm:ss = 03:52:55 PM and 03:52:55 AM
H:mm:ss = 15:52:55 and 3:52:55
HH:mm:ss = 15:52:55 and 03:52:55

P.S. Just noticed... this thread was first posted in 2001... 7 years - impressive :)

re: How do I get a 24 hour clock?
united kingdom=24 hr
united states=12 hr

(Ireland = 36 hr? Sorry - couldn't resist. I don't think the average UK resident uses 24 hour time. -PZ)

re: How do I get a 24 hour clock?
In XP go to the regional settings, then in the first tab click the customize button. Go to the time tab and change the h:mm to HH:MM for a 24 hour clock.

re: How do I get a 24 hour clock?
Start -> Control Panels -> Regional and Language Settings -> Customize -> Time Tab -> The rest of it should be pretty intuitive, but in the time format field it should have something like HH:mm:ss for a 24 hour clock, and hh:mm:ss for a 12 hour clock.

re: How do I get a 24 hour clock?
To all who read this,
the computer's clock setting is one part of the computer you can actually 'play' with.
Why?
If you write down all the settings, you can change the time any-which-way you like to,as it will never harm the running of the system files.
It is only a clock.
When you're done, simply 'reset' it back it's to original settings.
The computer won't miss Time.
That is already 'set', via the CMOS set-up.

re: How do I get a 24 hour clock?
Its very easy to change the time settings, if you know what they are.
First of all, goto Control Panel and open Regional Settings.
Click on Time tab and in Time style and change the HH or hh to h.
The following are legal settings:
h:mm:ss (12 hour time)
h:mm:ss tt (12 hour time with am/pm)
hh:mm:ss (24 hour time)
hh:mm:ss tt (24 hour time with am/pm)
Add the am or AM in AM symbol and pm or PM in PM symbol to get the symbols after the time.
You can see the change in the Time sample above Time style by clicking the Apply button.
This works with 95 and 98 and possibly with other Windows.
Hope this helps.
