Where's mshtml.hlp?
Friday, 25 January, 2008
I use a web page for my desktop with some JavaScript controlled links that use an ActiveX Object (Scripting.FileSystemObject, to be exact) to run some of my programs. After I recently installed the Beta version of Windows XP Service Pack 2, the links stopped being handled by the JavaScript and when I boot the computer it says something about the ActiveX Object. If I click Help, it says it can't find C:\windows\system32\mshtml.hlp . Did installing the service pack delete it? And if so, how can I get it back?

This is a bug -- the DHTML Page Designer programmer put in the routine help link but there never was such a file. See this link for more details. There is some more info on the DHTML Page Designer here. There is NO SUCH FILE. Jan Wikstrom

AllenPosted: 03/10/2008 re: Where's mshtml.hlp? Apparently it's no where to be found. Right clicking and copying a picture seems to be the best solution since Microsoft can't fix what they screwed up. randyPosted: 12/08/2008 re: Where's mshtml.hlp? so where is it? Raj ChauhanPosted: 29/05/2008 re: Where's mshtml.hlp? Time and again the following dialog has been displayed while I am log on Internet.
"your current security setting prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a resutl, the page may not display currectly.". Therefore, it is requested that kindly suggest further course of action for smooth functioning of Net. cbPosted: 18/05/2008 re: Where's mshtml.hlp? I don't know where is it, but a go around solution, much easier than going thru 'Paint'.
Just do a Forward for this message, save it and then go to this picture in the preview pane and 'save as' will work!
good luck to all, and let's stop searching for this gimmik file! JanPosted: 27/04/2008 re: Where's mshtml.hlp? The same place as any help from Microsoft; non-existant! But don't worry, you don't need the headaches you can get by trying to find it. Just open "paint" or other picture program, etc., then right click on what ever you want to save. Click copy and then paste into your open program. Then save it in whatever format and program you choose. It works for me. Good Luck and God Bless. MarkPosted: 07/04/2008 re: Where's mshtml.hlp? I had this happen to me today (7/4/08) after using the PC a lot over the weekend for downloading variuos things but never had this message before today. After checking the net and seeing the responses here etc I tried a system restore. There was a point from 2 days ago so I restored to that and I don't get the message anymore and everythign seems back to normal. Hope this helps someone else that may find the same problem.

Since then I get 'that crazy' message !!!!! I have ascertained for myself that no such a file exists -- but how do I bypass 'that crazy' message so I can save pics from these incoming N/Ls ??????
(I'm lost - what are N/L emails? -PZ) JeffPosted: 05/03/2008 re: Where's mshtml.hlp? Mark, when I owned a car, yes, I fixed it myself, so your statement is indeed pure crap.
Most computer programs do work just fine (by 'default')....but suffer 'failure' from the sheer in-ability of the User to understand what they are doing (their ignorance...to 'read the fine print'..of the Help/Readme,txt file).
Having built more than 14 computers (from scratch), and repaired many others that have been messd up by the 'user' I do not consider myself by any means a 'computer whiz'...am just a bloke who knows a computer is only as good as the information that is put into it, and used correctly.
As a result,after I have fixed a computer, rarely do I get a 'call-back'...to 're-fix' a busted computer (because those I teach 'how-to' learn what I have taught them).
I do not 'fix' computers, for a business. I do it,as a hobby, and, most of all, I do not ask for payment, which pleases my 'clients' no end. Not everyone can be a computer whiz, Jeff you sound like a real dick, does the mechanic think your stupid because you can not fix your own car JeffPosted: 02/02/2008 re: Where's mshtml.hlp? 'Ignorance' is pure Bliss, isn't it?!
And, very 'profitable'...to me (and others fixing computers that have 'crashed'.......due to users' 'studipity')! andrew peter collinsPosted: 30/01/2008 re: Where's mshtml.hlp? Hey Pranish. I'm a bit confused. Are you agreeing with me or not? You've got the inverted comma's in the wrong place. Cheers, Andy. Pranesh PALPosted: 30/01/2008 re: Where's mshtml.hlp? Andrew, the fact that "The amount of people who do not know basic computer knowledge astounds" you astounds me! andrew peter collinsPosted: 28/01/2008 re: Where's mshtml.hlp? Why the hell would anyone be so stupid as to use a "Beta" version of Service Pack Two? I can remember when it was released as a download. The amount of people who had to reformat their pcs after that download was incredible. I went to a friends business and all i saw were towers being re-formatted. One customer, a solicitor, had lost all info on a case that he had been working on for months. Because i was warned and you can throw in a bit of luck here, i waited until SP2 was available on CD-ROM. I was also warned to wait about two months after the disc was released to be sure that SP2 was bug free. I got my disc of the front cover of PC User and installed SP2 and guess what, no problems. I have learned a lot over the last 8 years about pcs, mostly self taught as i was very ill during the 90s but running a computer, is hard work. The amount of people who do not know basic computer knowledge astounds me. If a programme is released in Beta form, it means that it is a test version which is meant for evalution either by you, the punter, or by IT professionals. The key word here is "TEST". Never rely on a Beta version of anything! These releases are to give you a rough idea of whether you will like the release or not. Cheers gang, Andy :) :)

(Why, what's the problem? Are they attachments or are they visible in the email? What happens when you right-click on them? That should give you an option to save the file. -PZ) Angel HeartPosted: 19/08/2007 re: Where's mshtml.hlp? I want to download mshtml.hlp
(Hi Angel Heart, Did you even read the answer above? It says that this is a mistake. There isn't such a file. -PZ)
Rene LebelPosted: 19/03/2007 re: Where's mshtml.hlp? I do not have the file in system32. how and where can I get it please. I put in explorer 8.1 recently and somehow lost this file. Is it normal?
Thank you in advance.
(Hello Rene. I've checked with Microsoft and you're on their blacklist so you can't have a copy of that file. They sent people in and deleted it while you were asleep. They did suggest that you read the answer above though. You have been charged a $1000 silliness fee. -PZ) dineshPosted: 02/03/2007 re: Where's mshtml.hlp? dear sir
