Foxtel is scrambled, isn't it?

Re: How do I get a digital TV modulator?
In response to Paul Zucker's comments. I think Foxtel is encoded so I'm not certain you could just plug into the DVD recorder and expect to see the saved program post recording.

Certainly the data stream from the cable or satellite dish is encoded -- that's one of the jobs of the Foxtel receiver.
But once it comes out of the box as a video (and audio) stream it should be a clean signal and recordable.
In fact Foxtel itself advises that if you have to return your receiver for any reason you can use this method to save important recordings.
You might be thinking of Macrovision which has been used to protect commercial recordings against copying.
Check these hits top see what other people have said on this subject. It seems that the Foxtel Box Office programs ARE protected against copying.
