So much for modern technology. Not MY fault.
Friday, 06 November, 2009
All of a sudden I can no longer access my emails via msn. I don't know why this has stopped so now I bypass msn wherever possible. I've given them up as a useless waste of space, however usually firefox or safari are usually ok but now I cannot get to my business or personal emails. All accounts are failing, I don't get any message or indication why. Safari shows nothing and firefox just has the timer waiting, and waiting, and waiting and waiting........WHY? I still have work to do NOW and its important so why cant I access any of my emails? At 9.45pm I have to start phoning business contacts for tomorrows plans. Its ridiculous. So much for modern technology.
Alison Holland, ,
 You're driving me mad.
Yes Alison, people like you are driving me mad.
Without a doubt this is the most common question asked (and answered) on sites such as this.
A) Why on earth would you entrust your business email to a free email service such as Hotmail? (If you must, at least use Google GMail.)
B) If you have lost access to the account, what happens when you use the "Forgot your password" option at www.hotmail.com? It will Either let you have the password sent to your alternate account or ask you your secret question (mother's maiden name). If you don;t have an alternate email address the ditto -- you're mad too.
If all that is too much for you I suggest you take up fishing instead.

All I can say is to repeat a Proverb: "If the student has not learnt the teacher has not taught!" PC User could certainly run some articles on this matter.
What Alison needs is a list of reference "books" on how the www and internet works, written in English. Not a whole lot of abuse from well versed people of the industry.
I have never been able to work out why any organisation would want to store my data and photos etc. for free, other than to look at it. When I down load emails from my ISP the details are deleted from their Memory Banks.
Alison keep your information in your computer - and back it up.
(I'll pass your suggestion to the editor Milton. -PZ) C. SmithPosted: 10/11/2009 re: So much for modern technology. Not MY fault. all you responders are *******. not everyone has all day to sit around and become one with the P.C. You always blame the user! I blame the ***** that wrote the UI. I blame the jerk that wrote the OS. And I blame the S.O.B.s that over price these frustrating toys. Those folks asking for help are not stupid or lazy. They are from non english speaking countries or impoverished nations. They don't have the luxuries of sloth you sanctamonious mothers have. I am sick of this site. i'll not grace your pages with my intellect ever again. UP YOURS YA WANKERS! MichaelPosted: 09/11/2009 re: So much for modern technology. Not MY fault. Sorry I can not help her with her problem as she has not said if her internet is working. She talks about Hotmail and Emils, was she using outlook express to access hotmail.
If she was that no longer works U have to use windows live mail.
she said firefox can not log into her hotmail, can firefox connect to the internet( i.e. non email related webpages)
I have been using a hotmail account for nine year for my small computer repair business. and never had a problem as long as U remember 4 rules.
rule 1 never tell anyone your password
rule 2 never tell anyone your password
rule 3 for something different do not let your computer remember your password, Always type it yourself.
rule 4 is for anyone small business keep backups of all customers details including EMAIL ADDRESS is U can contact them if U have to chance address.
In nine year I have not had yo U my backups, but I still keep them.
(Thanks Michael. You forgot to tell us your password. -PZ) Frank CrabtreePosted: 08/11/2009 re: So much for modern technology. Not MY fault. Dear Help Station
I think your'e missing my point. To my knowledge, and I will stand corrected if there is another way to access the internet. To access the internet you have to go through an ISP and pay them to access the internet on whatever deal/plan you decide on.
Now if that is the case. Most of the major ISP's provide at least one internet address and obviously you pay for it as part of the deal. In my situation I can have three. Or are there situations were email is not part of the deal?
Notwithstanding that the above is the case in Alison's situation and she has no 'private' email account.
Why would you setup a business using a free unsupported email service, when according to Alison the email component of her business is so vital?
Surley a miniscule amount of business acumen and a little research and commonsense would tell you that if email is so important to your business, you would need a reliable supported service.

(There are many ways to have email access. Some good, some not so good. -PZ) Frank CrabtreePosted: 06/11/2009 re: So much for modern technology. Not MY fault. Dear Help Station
When I signed up for ADSL with my ISP. I got two free internet addresses as well.
Why risk run a business using free email?
Frank
(But you're paying for those. That's part of what the ISP gives you for your money each month. They have an obligation to keep it working properly. Free? Would they give them to someone who didn;t have an account with them? No, so they're not free. Carlo SchisanoPosted: 06/11/2009 re: So much for modern technology. Not MY fault. You are an idiot, Alison. People like you really get under my skin. I feel sorry for the poor b****rd that ends up having to come over and fix the problem you have created, expecting him to perform a minor miracle and kicking him in the guts because it wasn't fixed yesterday and for free.
You blame MSN for the problem when in the same breath you say that nothing else is working either. Rather than trying to come up with a reasonable solution, you are just firing off crap which doesn't even relate to the problem. If you can't figure out with that remaining half a braincell of yours that it has nothing to do with MSN, then yeah give it all up right now. I just hope you know how to use a pencil sharpener.
Oh. and I think your boss is a bigger idiot than you are for hiring you. andrew peter collinsPosted: 06/11/2009 re: So much for modern technology. Not MY fault. Alison. I agree with everyone on this. Your Internet Service Provider should have provided you with a primary email address. Why you based your business emails on MSN alone is beyond all of us here at help station and Pauls right. This situation drives us mad. The amount of wasted internet space and time is rediculous not to mention the waste of power. You say you're using FireFox and Safari browsers. Guess what. When configured properly they work properly. I suggest you start over, use your ISPs email address for your business contacts so that you stop wasting valuable time. I'm over people like you and i'm not sorry about it either. Get your act together and stop wasting other peoples time. If you don't understand something, ask for help...case closed...next? He/she'll scare the fish away, as well, and I love my fishing.
It's bad enough as it is, with the so-called 'experts' creating Marine Parks that so amazingly cover all the readily accessible areas to townships so the Park Rangers don't have to break into a sweat taking care of such an area, but, actually cause fishermen...to put their lives at risk, fishing the more in-accessible areas, while 'big business' trawlers vacuum up everything in sight...with immunity.
Alison, you've put so much faith...into Modern Technology, you can't live without it.
That's definitely your fault, not modern technology!
Where's your 'back-up' plan?
You have none.
No little 'black-book'.....for your contacts-Phone numbers-Addresses.
No memos....to remind you, of important things you have to do, so you don't lose track of any/all of your business.
What's going to happen...when your computer really goes 'belly-up'?
Loses everything?
it's like the story...of the typist who says she can't type...because she broke a finger-nail.
Of course, she can.
All she has to do, is, to trim her finger-nails....to get rid of her vanity, so that she can continue typing.
The World won't end...because of her broken finger-nail, nor because of your 'lazy' reliance...on modern technology.
