I need to instol vista altimet in my lap top.but i dont no how to chang hdd mode sata to idi how can i do that?
Sampath , ,
Can any readers work out what Sampath is trying to do and why it won't work?
Anyway, now that Windows 7 is available, surely you'd install that instead of Vista as it will run on the same machines.
(PS: Just before I submitted this question I realised that Vista Altimet is Vista Ultimate.)

This is done in the BIOS which is accessed by pressing a particular KEY on startup. I do believe you will need some help with this so get someone knowledgeable in PC`s to help you and consult you manual if you have one.
Frank n St31n JCPosted: 30/10/2009 re: Problems. I have problems. OK, MikeP and Todd, I missed the point you both made. (Shows I'm human, though.)
You're both right....if Sampath is moving up.....to Vista, what was the OS he/she was using before?
Well, it really doesn't matter....because the BIOS was Set, properly, to start with.
On the other hand, IF he/she has also changed the Hard-drive.......then, I say 'Yes! The Bios has to be also Reset! Again, to cater for the change-over, ESPECIALLY if the Hard-drive TYPE has been changed!'.
This is what what I was referring to.........that whenever you (the User) change ANYTHING...in ANY/ALL computer.....you double-check EVERYTHING!
To make CERTAIN that Everything is how it should be!
Then, you double-check, again!
To make sure that you actually got it right....in the first place!
Especially with Lap-tops/Note-books!
Why?
You get it all WRONG....and that's $1,200-$2,000+!......straight down the drain! ToddPosted: 28/10/2009 re: Problems. I have problems. If your installing Vista or Windows 7 you shouldn't need to change the ATA settings in the BIOS, with Windows XP, for many laptops you needed to install the SATA ACHI drivers while installing the OS, or change the ATA settings in the BIOS from ACHI to compatible (basically emulates PATA rather than SATA so therefore is more compatible) but these drivers are intergrated into the Vista and 7 installations so you no longer need to do this. The application would be Vista ULTIMATE.
The Laptop appears to have a SATA HDD, but for some reason Sampath wants to change the drive to IDE.
Vista should install on either so why do you need to change? Did you put in a new HDD?
Manuals. for some unfathomable reason the manuals are either on the CD or internet so you need a working system before you can get the system working. especially for newbies. how do you win that game?
JCPosted: 28/10/2009 re: Problems. I have problems. Sampath, check out the Manual.....for your Laptop.
In it, there should a Reference within it's BIOS Set-up that will tell you whether you can change........from IDE, to SATA.
Or vice-versa.(As like, in your case.)
Some motherboards do have this capability.
If yours has this 'option'......change it VIA the BIOS, then, use the "Save and Exit" option.
Your Laptop should Restart, now.
With that change....having been made.
If you have looked, and, there is no such 'option'......you'll need someone more experience than yourself.
To install the RAID drivers, then, set the hard-drive up...as either 'Mirror' or 'striped'.
Get it wrong, and, you could wind up...with no ACCESS....to your lap-top's hard-drive, at all.
(You'll have to RESET it, via the BIOS, back to the way it was to begin with!)
When in DOUBT, always consult the MANUAL........until you are confident that you FULLY understand 'how'....to do it.
Haven't got one (manual, that is).........download one, and give it a GOOD read.
There's no fun.......in having a computer..........you don't know a solitary thing about.
Lap-tops/Notebooks...in particular, as they are harder and more costly than ordinary Desk-top computers.....to fix or Set-up.
Yours, being used with Vista Ultimate,.....should be able to make that 'change' you want.
But only if....you do read the Manual....properly!(And, understand 'how' to do it.)
