Thanks God my colleague suggested i try to hijack the PC User web page,. Pity it failed. PS: I have an unusual name becauas I don't understand english names. dannyPosted: 06/02/2010 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's I bought a laptop in aldi 4 years ago and i'm still using it. Although I have a problem with the first one I bought but I still have the receipt and only 3 months old so they replaced it with their newer model. Planning to get another one in aldi soon. BoydPosted: 16/11/2009 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's I bought a Medion laptop in April 2007. It is now 6 months out of warranty and the hard drive has failed. I couldn't even recover my data with specialised file recovery software. Worse still, the machine came without a Windows disk - the installation files were stored in the D partition of the hard drive. I have purchased a new hard drive, and I emailed Medion a week ago to ask how I get a copy of the operating system that I paid for with my laptop. Zero response. Looks like I have to go out and buy a new copy of Windows. DON'T BUY MEDION !! yenkoPosted: 13/10/2009 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's ce3rtainly are and best value i ever seen RanaPosted: 03/08/2009 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's They are cheap becuase they are not build to last. I bought a laptop in September last year (2008) and it is now falling apart. The warranty is a scam too. Aldi and Medion refused to fix the laptop claming it is physical damage, when the display hinges were not working, they also claimed that the warrenty is cancled becuase of their belief. Do not buy any computers from ALDI...they are not worth the money you spend.. The PC shown at the top is from 2005. This is still better than base spec on most PCs from 2008. The latest Aldi PC has the kind of power Dreamworks uses to make movies on. TomPosted: 20/12/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's Aldi pc's are awesome super performance for a low cost. I bought 1 6 years ago still running like a dream bought another 3 years ago and still very powerfull compared to ones of today and am buying another friday that rocks performance wise. Highly recommend them in fact i dont buy pc's anywhere else anymore. HelgaPosted: 29/11/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's I live in the US. Aldi PC s are crap. When we called with problems they wanted $300.00 to look at it. We found someone to replace the motherboard for 100.00. After that the Medion monator died now the PC. Never again. Never had anything from Compaq die like this. Robert KinseyPosted: 28/11/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's I used to be the service desk manager for Medion Australia. Medion are no different to any other PC manufacturer in Australia, they have to adhear to the same stringent quality assurance measures that ALL manufacturers go through here in Australia. They sell their PC's chaep through Aldi because the PC's are manufactured the same time that the batches for Europe and the US are manufactured, Australia just take a small percentage. Also, Aldi dont over inflate their profit margins as much as other retailers do.

Guys,
DON"T BUY A MEDION PC. It will give you high blood pressure."
I have worked for some of the larger PC manufacturers such as Compaq and Acer and can tell you that they too have similar issues with their products. All manufacturers do. Take your time, be calm and if you are unable to get anywhere with your enquiriy over the phone then put your enquiry on paper and email/send it to the Services Manager @ Medion. I am sure that they would look at your case and assist where possible. (this is the same action for any issues you have with any manufacturer)
Cheers,

My previous PC was a GATEWAY. I have no doubt the MEDION will last at least as long. Highly recommend them. Larry JentzPosted: 19/11/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's Is that price for real?? no monitor?? I put together a system with better specs than this one not long ago and with 2 gig ram and 19 inch lcd widescreen monitor for $1200. I Fail to see any value in that price you have unless its a mistake. High definition audo is onboard as well and although not bad quality is still way behind Creative quality. That style of keyboard goes for $10 at any store and headphones for $20. Not worth the price by a long shot. ian Posted: 18/11/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's I hope they keep selling them.
i bought my first six years ago and im still on it with only one problem in that time (me) lol
the thing is like a truck just keeps on going i have bought 2 others since then one for the wife one for the kid had aproblem with the kids one in the first week took it back to aldi changed on the spot since no dramas have never had to phone the help desk till to day to ask about fan noise the fool at the other end told me they dont keep parts but get it fixed real quick lol(like why am i talking to you) if thats after sales service give me a breakwhen i first got a computer not from aldi i had to ring telstr help desk (had a problem with explorer the guy there told me to go too newagen to buy a magazine with a new explorer disk LOl like i didnt but this service ranks up there with telstra i wonder if aldi has outsorced to telstra i repeat the P.Cs are gr8 the service stinks TimPosted: 11/11/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's Guys,
DON"T BUY A MEDION PC. It will give you high blood pressure.
I have had the medion 8800 almost three years (with a 24 mth warranty) and I have had to take it back to them 6 times during that period, and the engineer has been to my house twice to fix it. ie. EIGHT faults that were serious enough to prevent me using it, more than one every three months.
On the last occasion it was out of warranty, and I had to push really hard to get them to even look at it. That was a few months ago, and last night it went again and I am having push them to look at it again.
I was not expecting miracles for the price, but 8 faults is a bit much. Every time I have a lot of hassle 1) getting through to support and 2) getting help, which suggests they are pretty busy with faults.
Next time I will buy a bigger brand, and make sure I get an extended warranty. FlesheaterPosted: 04/10/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's Aldi occuoy smart people to sell comnpruyter
(What? -PZ) Tracee KPosted: 08/07/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's I don'tknow if anyone is still on this topic but I have two Medion computers from Aldi - Laptop and Desktoop. I am unable to open my .MPG files in any application but Quicktime on these computers. I don't have that problem on any other computer. I have had overall good luck with both of these as I have had these for years now. I have no problem opening my .AVI files. I get kicked out of my applications whenever trying to open these files and even get kicked out of Explorer if my view is set on Thumbnails and I click on a folder that contains any of these files. It's very frustrating and will take me a great deal of time to convert these to .AVI files so that I can use them in any of my movie creating software. I even upgraded my Windows Media Player hoping maybe this would help but it doesn't. It's Medion computers because i have no problem with Dell or any other brand. Does anyone else have this problem or know what I can do? AnnikaPosted: 29/02/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's I have to agree with Richard Bertoldo - when these PCs are working they are great but the support is horrendous.
I bought the MD8800 back in December 2005, it broke down in January 2007 and spent over 2 months either waiting for tech support or with the repairer waiting for parts from Medion. It took an inordinate number of phone calls to the help desk and warranty repairers and eventually a request to get a refund before it got fixed.
Now less than 2 months outside the 2 year warranty it refuses to power on again and Medion refuses to assist in any way because it is out of warranty (never mind that it is less than a year since they repaired the same problem!).
I have emailed tech support and faxed Medion but so far have had no response from them.
This kind of poor service seems to be standard practice for them since they also took over 3 months to send out a wall bracket for a Tevion LCD TV.
I also advise copying your receipt as they took mine during the original warranty claim, leaving me without this 'proof of purchase'.
(Thanks Annika. Good feedback and advice. -PZ) randomnessPosted: 31/01/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's u mite as well not buy these cheap components. if you look at the specs, pentium D...it should not even be sold anymore. Plus some of their specifications are wrong, such as 'dual channel memory' on a 64bit bus??? as i recall it should be 128bit with 2 modules.
False advertising, why not just buy from a local computer shop with way better parts. Richard BertoldoPosted: 31/01/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's I have bought three Medion PC's. I must admit the PC's are good value and are made of quality parts, not generic as some people seem to think just because there are cheap.
However, I have had problems with their computers, the most recent problem is a hard drive and motherboard on the MD8800.
Unfortunately every time I have had to deal with the Medion Help Desk it always becomes a frustrating experience. In the past I have had to deal with Medion's Help Desk six times. After sales support is poor and that's the best rating I can give Medion.
My advice to anyone who has bought a Medion computer is to replace any fans on CPU and GPU with an alternative brand such as Zalman because they will definitely fail and backup files because Medion will not allow you to retrieve data from the hard drive if it fails. If you want to retrieve your data and the hard drive is still under warranty you will have to buy the hard drive back off Medion.
Retrieving data from a failed hard drive is also very expensive. The cost of 100 cd's to backup your files or another hard drive is much cheaper.
Medion don't store parts in Australia. Parts are ordered in from Germany and this can take a month or more to arrive.
I've never had their Technician contact me in the time I have been told they would. I sent nine emails and two lots of faxes over a period of three weeks and Medion never replied to anything I had sent and their Technician contacted me 10 days after Medion said he would.
In that time I dealt with five different people all of who gave me the run around until I lost my patience.
Their new MD8828 desktop is good value but they do not offer you the choice of Windows XP. Vista still has a lot of problems particularly with software that isn't Vista compatible. Many Tertiary Institutions still use XP and for students using Vista this can be a problem. Dell and HP now offer the choice of XP or Vista, Medion should do the same.
As someone has already stated, Medion seem to treat us as fools. The warranty offered in Australia is 1 year less than in Europe and America and the spec's are different, they get more for the same money. UK, Europe and America get better hardware.
In America, Medion sold Screens with their desktop for the same money we were paying in Australia. We should actually be getting more because our currency is cheaper than the pound, $US and the Euro.
I must say that the mouse, key boards are cheap and scunggy.
I did returned one computer which only had 12 months warranty on it one month before the warranty ran out because Medion kept giving me the ran around. Aldi were good about it. They gave me a complete refund. Must keep your receipt though. Another tip is to photocopy your receipt because Aldi use thermal paper and heat destroys the print on the receipt.
(Thanks for the tips Richard. -PZ) darcy shartonPosted: 27/01/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's Dear Help Station
Don't know about Aldi (living in Perth). But have a look at the Harvey Norman adverts. You can get a pretty good home pc for under a grand at the moment. Which would suit most home pc users, but obviously not gamers.

Pranesh PalPosted: 26/01/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's I have an ALDI medion PC purchased 09/07/2004. . I've had a problem with the ATI 98OOXL card within a few months of purchase - which was replaced under warranty in 1 week. I then had the fan fail on the Graphics card again just lately. Have put in a VF-700 Cu (http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/ view.asp?idx=149&code=013) after market cooler on the graphics card -$35. (This requires 1 slot to be free next to the Graphics Card)Have also installed 4GB ram. Extra Hard drive. USB card.
The TV Tuner card is perfect (Analog though - Time to upgrade)
Just pulled out the CPU fan and gave it a good clean - lots of dust. Make sure you have Thermal Paste for good bonding when you put it back on.
Use PC ALERT 4 from MSI to keep an eye on the temperature.
The PC is Rock Solid - the mother board is from MSI - no major problems with the PC at all.
Will have no hesitation buying it again but could get Unlucky if it is a bad batch - won't help if service is poor.
So far I have been lucky.
Ken CampbellPosted: 25/01/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's Hello Peter. I understand your reasoning for purchasing a PC based on good value for the price / features combination. However, electronics, and especially PCs, would typically take first prize and the wooden spoon in the reliability stakes.
I much prefer to pay a little more for such items so I can be face to face with the people responsible for warranty and repair. You obviously know a bit about PCs, but I would hate to see the Medions in the hands of somebody new to computing considering all the niggly software issues that can arise with any PC. The PCs would either very quickly become boat ankers or the purchaser would have effectively bought the unit again in paid support from a local store - unless they know somebody who can help.
I think I can recall Paul mentioning, either in an answer to a question or a comment on a post, a few months ago that he prefers to see somebody new to computing purchasing a known brand name that has good local support.
If Aldi wishes to sell their PCs with a little or no profit margin, that's their issue and should not translate into poor support for the product. Our consumer law is very clear - any product for sale, regardless of price has to be fit for purpose.
Have you tried contacting Australia■s Aldi CEO? This person is probably German and you may get a hearing. From what you have said about the European market, what is occurring here is not Aldi's policy on service and support.
PeterPosted: 25/01/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's Bought a 8383xl. Everything broke. CPU Fan/Video card fan disintegrated/12 months warranty where the same item sold overseas had 24. Support very average. Only saving grace was a private Aldi Computer Forum where all your problems were discussed. Great on the surface but Mr Aldi is taking the aussies for fools. Not impressed. What gaulled me most was the difference in the warranty period as mentioned above. PeterPosted: 24/01/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's Thanks for the reply mate.
Yes I have used the contact details and email form on the Medion Australia website and these are the same ones who have stuffed up the return. I've read nothing but good from the European support so was wanting to contact the German division as they may not be aware of how poorly they are performing down-under.
I've finally got through to contact them again, after they failed to return my phone call after the messages I've left for them, and am in the process of sending the incorrect unit back now. Just awaiting their email as proof of contact before it disappears into the realm of Fair Trading though. I'd rather it not go this far but...
Will keep you updated as to the final result. The plus is they use a Reply Paid account so all you pay for is the packaging to return items.
I have to repeat my belief, that the Medion range are fantastic value for money, but hope that you never have to deal with the tech support any time soon. Let's hope they can pick their game up soon though.
Oh and Bob (sorry I'm 2 yrs late): It's not they are so cheap. It's just the other places are so much more expensive :) I've also heard a rumour that they don't make much (or even take a loss) on these big ticket items, and are in effect loss-leaders, to attract people to shop at Aldi on a regular basis.
(I went to my local Aldi yesterday Peter and was amazed at the range of Medion/Tevion tech devices. The trouble is, once you hit a bad one it seems to go all pear shaped. I'll try again to contact the local office and see what can be done. In the meantime, when I put up www.medion.com I meant for you to find the German head office details to contact. You can email in English - I\m sure they won't mind. Otherwise why not try the UK contact details. Good luck. -PZ) PeterPosted: 24/01/2008 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's They sure are. I now own 3 Medion PC's. A desktop and 2 laptops.
All 3 are excellent value for money. Have more features than other PC's do for approx 20% less. But...
The Australian Medion support is horrible. I had to return an AC adaptor for replacement after it died.
I was told that "we wire them differently" so I couldn't use another while it was away waiting to be replaced. Bullsh*t. The Dick Smith 19v 4.74A multi-one I bought was fine and it doesn't end there. When I finally (3wks later) received the AC adaptor back it was a 19v 3.42A and not the same adaptor. It says on the bottom of the laptop that it requires 19v 4.74A input. So why send me something back that can damage my PC? They are still to sort this out still.
Get a Medion if you can. They are a great buy. Just pray you never have to deal with the after sales technical support dropkicks is all...
P.S. Do the guys at PC User have contact details for someone I can contact in Germany? I don't think they know how pathetic the tech support for their products are down here.
(Have you tried looking on www.medion.com Peter? There are contact details there. -PZ) MartyPosted: 25/10/2007 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's I purchased two Medion MD 8800 Computers January last year. Jeroen,26-10-2006 BrianPosted: 01/01/2006 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's May I suggest to Bob, who wonders why Aldi sell PC's so cheap, that it appears to me from my own observations of Aldi's marketing methods, some of the reasons are:
1. They have an ever increasing number of outlets so that even if they only sell a few PC's at each outlet they have a volume advantage.
2.Their weekly specials once sold out are not replaced so that their stockholding costs are lower.
3.The goods are less likely to get damaged as they are not on the shelves long enough.
4. Chris's suggestion that generic parts are used.
These savings are obviously passed on to their customers. juliePosted: 03/12/2005 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's i bought the aldi pc and its good only it doesnt like nortons anti virus chrisPosted: 29/11/2005 re: Are they still selling Aldi PC's the reason they are so cheap may becuase the manufacturer has used generic parts such as case, ram and power supply as i can get a case for $50.
