I have a Belkin G wireless router that I am hooking up for the first time.
We have DSL.
I would like to know if I hook up the wireless router to my Directv DVR with an Ethernet cable to the DVR will it also work on my laptop without being hooked up directly to my desktop. The laptop has WiFi.
Thanks

Hi Joan. I'm not familiar with the
DirecTV unit but if it has an Ethernet port and it's capable of sending video out to a PC via the Ethernet cable then yes it should also send it to any WiFi connected PCs on that same network. That's what home networking is all about.
However, be warned that just because a connection is on a piece of equipment doesn't necessarily mean that it works the way you expect., or even works at all. For instance here in Australia we have a Pay TV box called the Foxtel IQ which has a USB port, but there's no way that the port can be used to export recordings on the box.
And remember to turn on the WiFi security on your network.
