Can I play PS2 games on my PC?

Somebody told me that I can play PS2 games in my PC if I have a DVD-ROM and an emulator (whatever that is).
Is that true? If so, I'd like to, to save buying a PS2.

 ‘Somebody’ is quite right. If you have a DVD-ROM and an adequate ‘emulator’ in your computer system, you should be able to play PS2 games. An ‘emulator’ is a software program that ‘translates’ the program coding of a console game into instructions that will allow it to run on a computer. There are ‘emulators’ available for quite a number of game consoles.
(Or you could say that an emulator makes the one machine behave as though it was another. It "emulates" the other machine. -Paul Zucker)
‘Emulators’ come with a risk attached, however. They’re generally written by enthusiasts, and are untested on wide ranges of computer hardware. You may find one that works well for you, or you may find one that doesn’t work at all on your system, or even worse causes problems with your system! The only ‘emulators’ I found mention of for PS2 were incomplete and still under development. The most popular of those was described as "far from complete" and "developed by reverse engineering PS2 demos, which isn't an ideal source for developing an emulator"!
Not to mention the fact that it’s rather unethical and possibly even illegal to use one.
I’d suggest you don’t bother. If you want to play PS2 games, run down to KMart or Target (which I believe you have in Puerto Rico) and grab a console for yourself -- they’re quite inexpensive nowadays!

the only drawback is that you need a really good cpu to play it.

(Perhaps you SHOULD read everything. -PZ) madusankaPosted: 22/06/2008 re: Can I play PS2 games on my PC? the emulator is legal, the bios is ILLEGAL unless you actually own a ps2 , the most promising emulator for playstation 2 is pcsx2 which can be found at http://www.pcsx2.net/ but dont expect anything mind blowing out of it, they only just recently figured out how to emulate a dreamcast, the ps2 emulator can run very basic games such as bust a move, it will be quite some time before it is the same as having a real ps2.

Emulators will often have legal warnings with them to say as much. One of the most popular emulators is MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) and if you open a ROM file with it you will have a screen saying it is illegal to use this emulator to play games you do not own.

dude... all ps2 emulators are MASSIVE failures... they can either play crappy games or break ur dvd rom... dont waste time or money on a new dvd rom on them. EMULATORS SUCK!!!!!!

If you ever want to play PS2 games on your PC you will first need to get a new computer.
I have a fairly new PC and when I try to play ps2 games it runs at 5 fps with inverted colors. To say the least IT IS NOT PLAYABLE!!!!!!!!
If you did buy the newest computer on the market, with the fastest ram and processor then you need to get your games in order. You cannot simply put a PS2 DVD into your DVD ROM player and push a "Play" button. You need to have SOME past technical experience in order to play the games. If in fact you do have that do a quick google search for "PS2 emulator". This will tell you everything you need. Sorry to spoil anyone's good times but you need to be realistic. Any processor below Pentium 4 WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO RUN PS2 GAMES AT FULL SPEED!!!!! 3.the most simple way of all these is to take a stapler pin and scratch your pcdrivelens with it(i have tried this and it really worked)

(Alexandra, that isn't for anyone but experienced experimenters. There are emulatir programs that claim to do this but we have no knowledge of whether they work or not. You should read this entire thread to see what people are saying But don't expect much. A PS2 is the way to play PS2 games. If you don't believe me, that's your prerogative. Dude, if you are really serious about a ps2 emulator on your computer, you are going to need a high performance graphics card, very large hard drive (or dvd burner if you want to store the game files somewhere else). Also it is pretty unsafe to go about downloading ISO off torrent files because of the unlimited amount of trojans. But, if you think your computer specs are good enough and you have a good internet connection for downloading the games, just search google for PS2 emulator and you will have it really quickly,ALSO NEVER EVER EVER POST ON ANY FORUM THAT OU INTEND TO BREAK COPYRIGHT LAWS, it is a rule. The files for the games will come in various formats and usually you will have a lot of conversion work to do in order for the files to work properly on your emulator. I was asleep when you posted that. -PZ :-) ramsecolinePosted: 28/11/2007 re: Can I play PS2 games on my PC? well, hello im from Mexico and i saw this section and decided that i needed to say something........... i installed in my computer the pcsx2 version 0.9.1 and i saw it didnt work after a lot of tests an options, it had a bios with that too, then i searched for another and i found v0.8 13th release, thats what it says and this was in a rar archive and do not install just opens an run, so this would not work, so i decided to put into the pcsx2 that i installed firs, all the plugins , bios, the patches and other stuff that i wanted or seemed to me as probable complements that wouldnt do any harm and copy them to the indicated folder (i just copy them directly) hwen it said that if i wanted to replace some files i didnt copy so i click no, just copy the missing files that were on te 0.8 version, i also moved the icon that says pcsx2 so it would overwrite the one from the installed folder and thats it i closed the folder and i open the program with the new icon and guess what?, it worked, at least with one game, Ghost Recon for play station2, but thats the only one i found, at fist it was slow but as soon as the game guided me to saving files in memory card and finished, the game was runing good, i had to take a look at some toutorials and configure pcsx2 with all the options so i was able to find the correct one, ok so anyone that want this is right here: 4shared,...find pcsx2, then..."PS2 Emulator - Bios" (this is the one you should install), the 0.8 version is "Emulador.PS2-MemCard-BIOS.By.Andre-Sk8" (this is the one from where you should copy bios, plugins, patches an remember the 2 MEMCARDS (copy them in memcards folder), ok see you.
