More Telstra woes

Saturday, 24 July, 2010

UPDATED (See response)

I moved into a new estate only to find that there had been a muck up with cabling, by Telstra contractors, no continuity in the estate.

Six weeks of lies, case managers not returning calls and us at our wits end we get a call from a technician telling us there is no continuity in the estate. We said we know that and we knew that a month ago.

Then a week later we get the phone on. Seven weeks we waited. It lasted one day. While all this was going on I got my account for March 2010 which I paid straight away as I always do. Then two days later I get another account for a different amount. Now I cannot access my Telstra Bigpond because they are looking on their screens at an overdue account which was paid over a month ago.

I then find someone in Telstra that can speak English and has the ability to communicate and she fixes up the account (which by the way has been done four times before by the so called employees of Telstra). But it doesn't show up on other computers so I have no phone and no Internet and why? Because I am dealing with the biggest bunch of ignorant idiots that I have ever encountered in my whole life,

Telstra should not be allowed to own the lines as they are not competent enough to manage them.

I'll pass your complaint to Telstra's public relations department Gavin. Let;s see what they have to say.

I'll report back here.

Well in follow up all the above have issues that could be argues for or against.but we did eventually get the phone on, but what a saga, from the base level where you struggle to understand anything they say,to middle management that tell you lies, for instance our assigned case managers phone said" leave a detailed message and I will get straight back to you as soon as I can", we found out she was on holidays at that time. The on the ground technical people were telling us things that were contravening what Telstra was telling us,I do not know what the answer is but I do know this, the way that business is being run is a disgrace, and of all the people we dealt with in this crisis only a hanfull seemed to even care, lets hope this isn't a trend.

re: More Telstra woes
I recently had a similarly very upsetting and stressful experience with Telstra, getting constant misinformation, promises of return calls that never eventuated etc. In desperation, I found a contact on their site for the Office of the CEO and sent an email there, setting out a summary of the situation. That resulted in a near-immediate action and, eventually, resolution of the problem. However I would not advocate going through that route unless you had already exhausted all other avenues.

The other possibility when having troubles, is to contact the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman. The TIO can then give you the telephone number for the Telstra Complaints Resolution Centre, an area that Telstra tries hard to actually keep secret and refuses to actually give out the number for it.

A senior Telstra official tells me that due to continuing problems arising from the off-shore call centre operations, a number of these functions are being progressively returned to Australian shores.

(Thanks Ross. Interesting to hear. -PZ)

re: More Telstra woes
Gavin, blame the contractors who actually built the new estate, not Telstra.
It is/was their responsibility........that all Services were pre-built into where you now live.(If you care to re-read your Property's papers, you will probably find that the papers do state that ALL Services have been 'included'.... in the price you paid, for your new property.)
Being such a new estate, Telstra doesn't know that your estate even exists ........YET!
The local Phone Exchange (sub-station).....has barely allocated enough racks, to accommodate all the phone services....of the new estate.

They (the sub-station) don't know that you 'exist', yet, either.

Six-seven weeks, and you are
getting messed around by Telstra, you say.

How many houses are there, on this new estate?
2 or 3?
10 or 24?
If there is no cable connected to it, check with your local Council.
You may find that you will have to get together...with all your neighbours (that's all who are already living on this estate!).......and, pay for the laying of that all important cable, yourself, in a collective manner.
That is, all of you will have to pay for your 'share'....of having that new cable laid!

Bill-wise, Telstra does NOT know that your Estate even 'exists', either.
Probably all those you have already 'spoken to'......may be thinking that you are 'trying to pull a swifty' here.....to register a non-existant phone, in a place they haven't heard of, YET, again.
And, are 'treating' you accordingly....as a 'prankster!
Have you considered that, Gavin.
Your Accounts (new and old)....are messed up, yes, possibly for that very reason, too.
(And, ooh, by the way, every time you request....a fix, yes, it goes down on Teltra's books as a 'job to be done'. Quite possibly you may get billed......for every call-out, as a result. Why? Because NOBODY at Telstra ever checked.....to see if there is a prior call-out!.....to your address, never mind let alone to your 'estate'...the one they believe DOES NOT exist, yet!)

Like I said, at the beginning of my reply......the ones you should be blaming, first of all, are..........the contractors who built your estate.
They are ones who built it WRONG (with the barest of Services!)..in the first place, in order to make a killing...on the Real Estate boom Australia is experiencing.
Ask them...what are they doing to fix your problem?
They'll say (the contractors)....you bought the real estate 'as is', as per your contract, the problem is ALL yours..to fix, not theirs, either.

Nice little merry-go-round you have got yourself on, Gavin.

Good luck with it.

re: More Telstra woes
This is why privatisation of Telstra is bad. The government needs to have some sort of standard as all government departments do. However, when Telstra becomes a private company, everything goes to crap.

I wonder what Centrelink would be like if it was privatised???
