Any friendly Foxtel techs out there?
Tuesday, 17 March, 2009
Hi guys.
I think that it's crap that Foxtel has not made public the details on how to rip recorded programs from the Foxtel IQ box.
Does anyone know an employee of Foxtel? I have rung them and the chick I was talking to said "yes its possible and easy to do" but could not tell me how to do it as the calls are recorded. They cant tell you over the phone so if any one is in the family or a mate of some one working for them could you ask and then post the answer for us as she said it's easy and technically legal as you are paying for the right to view and record the programs to the box so you have paid for the license for the shows viewing rights.

That certainly would be nice to know James, but if it was that easy don't you think the secret would be out in public by now? I still suspect that you'd need a firmware change in the box at the very least, and why would Foxtel (or Sky) do that? There's nothing in it for them.
There are a couple of forums in Australia and the UK that follow these boxes. Have you been to them? Paul Zucker

It is against copyright law to record any programs on tv or otherwise without the express consent in writing of the owners. However, having said that, you can record off Foxtel IQ onto a DVD Recorder directly at your own risk. With AUSTAR using 'MyStar' which is the same as Foxtel IQ, when trying to record onto a DVD Recorder it comes up with a message that it is not allowed due to copyright or words to that effect (I tried that one myself). You can record as the program is being aired. RogerPosted: 18/03/2009 re: Any friendly Foxtel techs out there? Paul
Okay 'tape' might not have been the correct word, but if you have a dvd recorder you can record programs as you watch them and the quality's fine. By the way, you would have lost that bet. Roger WarrenPosted: 18/03/2009 re: Any friendly Foxtel techs out there? If you want to keep any programs recorded to your IQ why not tape them as you watch them.
(Tape? You have a digital recorder and you want to use tape? I'll bet you donl't have an IQ box Roger. -PZ) Dave, SydneyPosted: 17/03/2009 re: Any friendly Foxtel techs out there? I dont have a solution but .......I want to know the same thing, I'm getting desperate.
The Foxtel Technician arrives on Thursday to collect the old IQ box and install IQ2 and i need to rescue hours of recordings!!!!!
HELP!!!!!
(I'm told that many Foxtel subscribers negotiated to keep their IQ when the IQ2 box was ordered. All they pay is the wiring for a second room. Try to do the same. -PZ)
