Why won't the DVI connection work any more?

Monday, 26 January, 2004

When connecting the DVI cable from my graphics card to the TFT monitor I get this error message:

    No Connection
    Check Signal Cable

It was working fine before, then I moved to a different place and this problem occurred, Now I'm using the RGB connection. I've checked the PC to see if there's any setting to change to DVI but no luck.

An error message like that would make me suspect that there's an incorrect setting, or more probably that the cable or connectors could be damaged or not plugged in properly.
  1. Is there a setting on the monitor to choose between RGB and DVI input? (You say you've already checked the PC.)
  2. Check closely to make sure that none of the connector pins are bent or pushed in.
  3. Try the monitor's self-diagnostics to see if that reveals anything.
  4. Take the monitor and cable to another PC with DVI output and try them there. Try another DVI monitor on your PC. Swap the cables (yours and theirs). This will show you if the problem is in the monitor, the cable or the PC.

I have the same problem. I used my laptop to test the monitor and it worked fine. Would it be a video card?
