Reader help: Where can I get PC case mods in Perth?

Monday, 09 December, 2002

I've just recently bought a new computer and am interested in doing some case modifications, but I am very hesitant to do them myself.

I was wondering if there was any place where I could get my case modded for me in Perth, Western Australia.

The modifications would include painting, possibly a side window and extra cooling.

Also, I would like to know if case modifications and/or overclocking voids your warranty.

Thanks a lot

Daniel Van Heerden, Perth, WA

To answer your last question first, overclocking and case mods would certainly void your warranty if the dealer/manufacturer chose to do so.

I'm sure there are readers in your area who will be able to "post a solution" here, answering your questions about mods in the Perth area. Also:

1: You can buy replacement, transparent side panels for many case types. A Google search should locate some. Try a search such as:

transparent case PC site:au

2: There must be plenty of places in Perth that can boost your cooling system, or sell you the bits to do it yourself.

3: Instead of modding the case, have you considered buying a new case (perhaps with transparent sides and extra case cooling as standard) and having it painted to suit your style. Then you can transfer all the innards to the new case, retaining the old one in case you ever want to sell the system in a more "traditional" look.

Do any readers have some suggestions for Daniel?

I got a window put in, with window applique and a LED fan in the window at elcotronics - they did a good job and while i was there i also got a Tt Harcano and a Tt volcano 9 - they have their shop mainly devoted the PC enthusiust equipment. Well worth a visit. check out their ad in the quoka (and look for other shops in the same section)

I think what Was suggested was the best idea, keep your old case and purchase a new case (gamers). these cases should be easily tracked down as they are really designed for hardcore gamers... Try the major computing vendors like Austin Computers both in Cannington and Osborne park or even some of you independent vendors may be able to help in fact Austin Computers in cannington has a fully functional computer there with clear sidepanels fluro lighting inside and water cooling...looks pretty cool...

Neway good luck with the search!!

Hey Daniel, how you going?

I too live in Perth, and I have seen a few shops around that sell case-modding gear. The only place I can think of at the moment is Elcotronics which are located at 47 Hulme Court Myaree. The phone number is (08) 9329 9118.

I havent been there yet, but I found their ad in the Quokka (computer section) and it says that they do repairs, so they should be able to sell you the equipment and install it for you at their premises.
