Upgraded to Me - Incredimail broke

Tuesday, 29 April, 2008

I upgraded to Windows ME and lost Incredimail.

I've tried to download older versions and even tried to reboot from a backup disk and I keep getting this pop-up saying I must have XP or higher on my computer to download Incredimail.

Does anyone know how to overcome this?

I will appreciate any help.

Johnnie Mc., ,

Hi Johnnie. Let me tell you one of the problems writing to a help service such as HelpStation, or ringing a computer person on a radio show for that matter. We all have our pet likes and dislikes and they'll influence our answers.

Have you guessed what I;'m going to say next?
  1. While we all tried Windows Me when it first came out many years ago, just about everyone who used it decided that it was a bad product. Not quite unusable, but not good either. I'm guessing that you've upgraded from Windows 98 or 98se which were quite solid operating systems, but of course are ten years old now.
  2. I also don't like Incredimail. That's not to say it's bad, just that it isn't for me.

Anyway, to answer your question, you should be able to find an old version of Incredimail that will work on your computer. You may not be able to get support or updates, but at least it should work.

Try this Google search. There'll be something there for you.

You could also check for help on the Incredimail web site.

As for the operating system - if you have a mate who's good with computers ask him/her to take a look at your PC. You may be able to run Windows XP on it and that would be a lot better than Me. It would be more compatibl;e with modern applications too.

Please let us know how you get on.

re: Upgraded to Me - Incredimail broke
Why anyone would use "Incredimail" is beyond me. It's up there with Bonzi Buddy as one of the most useless pieces of crap i've ever seen over the years not to mention that the damn thing is crawling with all types of viruses and spyware just waiting for an unprotected computer to infect. I only use Outlook Express because it's all i need. I would love to jazz up my emails with those free smileys and emoticons you occasionally see but not at the risk of opening Pandora's Box. Get rid of Incredimail. It's just not worth the risk Johhnie. Use your primary email address and/or MSN or Yahoo as they're much more secure. Cheers Andrew.

re: Upgraded to Me - Incredimail broke
I upgraded to ME years ago a friend? gave me a genuine disc. I soon went back to 98. I also tried Incredimail for a few days, it took longer to remove the junk that came with it. XP upgrade is available cheaply now, this would be a far better alternative.

(Thanks Keith. -PZ)

re: Upgraded to Me - Incredimail broke
Hmm,reminds me of....Creative Labs,doing the same thing (with me)...about it's "Live! 5.1" sound-card, when I 'upgraded' to Vista.
Creative's 'response',was.......
"Live! 5.1 and, earlier versions of Creative Sound-cards.....have reached the End....of their 'Service Life'."
Incredimail's done exactly the same!(With it's software!)

Are you 'absolutely positive'....that you tried 'every version' of Incredimail?
(Personallly,I don't think so! Why do I say that?........You stated(your own words!)..."You tried older versions and tried to 'reboot' from a back-up disk.")
I will believe the 'latter', not the 'former',okay.
There should be a 'version'(of Incredimail) for ME....in their "Archives".(Did you look,there?)
The only way that there is no longer a 'version' available, from their web-site...is that Incredimail itself had 'added'....the 'non-availability clause'......to their "Download" Section.

With ME!

It, too, has reached the end of it's 'service life'!
Even though people are still using it!
Please, accept the 'fact of reality'....and,move on!
If you really want Incredmail back, do as PZ has suggested?
I will suggest it,too, because I am in agreement with him.
Upgrade!
Technology has finally caught up with you.
You are as 'out-dated',as your computer is!
The software is starting to 'fail'....no further 'updates'.

It may sound 'nice'...that you have a computer still using ME.BUT!

And,that's where I will leave it.
