How can I delete my free Hotmail account?

 I'm not sure what you mean by "delete the account".
Do you man that you want to close it? Why not just stop using it in case you want to start using it again later?
This is what Hotmail says on the Hotmail web site.
Close your account
When you close your account you permanently delete your registered information (This is information given to Windows Live, including your e-mail address and password.) and credentials (Unique information that you use to access restricted resources. For Windows Live, credentials include your e-mail address and password. They may also include a mobile phone number and PIN, a smart card, or a security key.) , as well as your Messenger contact list and Windows Live contacts. You'll be unable to sign in to any Windows Live sites or services.
To close your Windows Live account:
Go to the Account Summary page.
On the navigation bar, click Settings.
Under Common tasks, click Close your account.
Verify that the correct Windows Live ID user name appears, type your password, and then click Yes.
Important
If you manage a child's account, the child's account permissions will be revoked if you close your account.
If the account you close is associated with any premium services (These are paid subscription based services such as Live Mail Plus that require you to establish a billing relationship with Microsoft) or with a Windows Live Mail inbox, you must cancel the subscription to each service or close your Windows Live Mail account before you close your Windows Live ID account.

(You'll have to ask Hotmail. But why would they? How do they know who you are? Let me break down the demographics here..
We have the idiots who think that the webmaster is a God who can miraculously (and remotely) delete a hotmail account for you.
We've got the losers who think they can get their friends' accounts deleted for a joke
And we've got the morons complaining about hacked accounts and yet posting their email addresses in public here... Any ideas why your account got hacked in the first place ??? anyone ??
Step 1. Use a password that cant be hacked by brute force (ie, hackers will use programs to try millions of common passwords on your email addresses, which they get because you post them openly everwhere) - "password" "secret" "nevertell" are not good passwords ! "0T1R2O3J4A5N6" is a good one. (No, I didn't post my own password here, I'm not as dumb as you)...
2. Change your password a few times a year. Use a difficult secret question.
3. If your account is hacked, change the password as soon as you notice. If you're locked out, you're fucked. HOTMAIL WILL NOT HELP YOU !!! They get millions of requests from scammers... They have a ZERO HELP POLICY ...dont waste your time. OPen a new account and tell your friends to ignore that old address and add it to blocked list...
