Is there a TV Tuner card with DVI out?
Friday, 01 June, 2007
Are there any TV Tuner cards with DVI interfaces?
Patricia , ,
I presume you mean are there any TV tuner cards with a DVI video output?
That sounds like a good idea until you think about it a bit. The whole point in putting a TV tuner card inside a PC is so that the operating system can both control it and also use it. That is, you want the video from the TV broadcast to be able to go through the operating system so that you can do things such as record shows and display a picture in a window on your desktop.
If you want to then feed the signal out of the PC and onto a plasma or big LCD screen, then you'd use the PC's graphics card, which would have its own DVI port.
If all you want is a TV Tuner card that just happens to be sitting in the PC, but feeds out to a screen independently, what's the point? You'd be better off with a separate, external set top box.
But if you mean a TV tuner card with video capture facilities and a DVI-in port, then that makes a lot more sense. There are certainly separate capture cards with either HDMI or DVI input ports.
Let's Google and see what we find. Or here are the results for Australia only.

(Buy a TV? Buy a PC? -PZ) SidharthaPosted: 24/08/2009 Is there a TV Tuner card with DVI out? HI All Experts,
i have bought a monitor having dvi cord but my motherboard doesn't have the slot for this cord to plug in.Is there any way by which i can use it to connect with a tv tuner card.
(Nor exactly sure what yopu want, but it['s cheaper to buy a TV. -PZ) David MeerPosted: 11/09/2008 re: Is there a TV Tuner card with DVI out? I would find a tv in dvi card useful as I am feeding two LCD tv's in two different rooms and my pc only has one dvi out. I would be watching tv in window on my pc desktop yes but it would be handier to buy one card that does both things than two seperate cards ChrisPosted: 03/06/2008 re: Is there a TV Tuner card with DVI out? I want a tv tuner that is also a graphics card.
This would make it so that I could get the tv from coax and then output it to my two DVI monitors (or HDMI and I can get the HDMI to DVI cable). If that is out there could someone please help me find it. Sam49Posted: 28/04/2008 re: Is there a TV Tuner card with DVI out? Many LCD-displays have two inputs, either VGA and DVI or two DVIs. It is possible to put the TV-tuner into one and the computer other. There are set-top boxes with VGA output, too. The display setting would select which signal is visible. I use simple A/B switch for similar purpose.
However, creating video window or overlay this way is a bit tricky, because both outputs need to be synchronised and there is no such option in computers. Also, there are different types of DVI outputs and inputs, not compatible with each other.
Best solution may be an inexpensive computer and TV-card as TV and a manual switch. In economic terms this makes sense, because set-top box is less expensive than high-resolution (0.25 mm pitch) digital TV and the good LCD-display is already there.
RDMPosted: 12/09/2007 re: Is there a TV Tuner card with DVI out? Aloha all,
The idea is to have your cable from the wall to the tuner card in the pc, then out to your monitor, like passing through or switchable, no extra box to buy like Elgato's pile of ****? Basically signal in and signal out, only out to the better monitor than regular TV.
I don't want the computer to touch the video feed in any way. No recording the data to fill up my hard drive duh....!
ALSO no picture in a picture or software manipulated just straight out to the full screen mode which is 2560x1600 Now thats far better than plasma and far better in HD crystal clear World Series at Home That is what she's talking about. ROCK ON WOMAN! WHO HAS THIS TECH OR BETTER WHO IS GONNA BE THE FIRST TO PRODUCE IT, I DONT CARE WHO DOES I JUST WANT IT NOW.
No body with a 30" HD cinema screen wants to buy another monitor, what's the point of two screens, especially when it's a superior picture to begin with. ChristianPosted: 23/08/2007 re: Is there a TV Tuner card with DVI out? The reason I'd want to have a DVI output (along with a DVI input) would be to allow my monitor to have a PIP feature. I'd want it to be done externally because running the video signal through my computer would be taxing on my computer (slowing it down). Or, that's what I believe would happen. Correct me if I'm wrong.
(I'm thoroughly confused Christian. I don't know what you're trying to achieve. Can you write back explaining what you already have and what you want to do. -PZ) ReaderPosted: 13/08/2007 re: Is there a TV Tuner card with DVI out? Avermedia STB-9 is what you are looking for.
(Yes, but that's an external set-top-box, not a tuner card. -PZ) FooPosted: 14/06/2007 re: Is there a TV Tuner card with DVI out?
I think paul is the confused one.
I think dispaying the video in a window on his "desktop" is exactly what he wants to do. What if your "desktop" is on a full HDTV though? doesn't the card need to have a high def output?
(No, the output of the PC is via the graphics card, not the TV tuner. The PC feeds whatever screen it is connected to via its graphics card. -PZ) TrentPosted: 11/06/2007 re: Is there a TV Tuner card with DVI out? It wouldn't make sense anyway
