Is there a better way to search Outlook?
Monday, 05 July, 2010
OLD QUESTION
I use Outlook for my email, and since I've never thrown out a single message it takes forever to search them? Is there a better way?

(ORIGINAl ANSWER. Things have changed since 2003.)
There's a great product for just this purpose, called ISYS:email.search. Because it maintains an index, it's effectively instantaneous too. It costs US$30 to buy but there's a 30-day free trial download that's less than 5 megabytes.
Go to Isys.
To quote from the sales blurb:
Designed to provide users with a quick and easy method for searching their Outlook and Outlook Express email messages, ISYS:email.search finds keywords, names, phrases and dates in less than a second, regardless of the number of messages you are searching.
ISYS:email.search includes many of the same great features as ISYS’ enterprise search solutions, including:
- hit highlighting
- hit-to-hit navigation
- three user-selectable search styles
- saved searches
- sortable results, and
- integration with Outlook and Outlook Express.
ISYS:email.search is based on proven, sixth-generation search technology and is priced to meet the consumer’s expectations for personal productivity tools.

MPosted: 05/07/2010 re: Is there a better way to search Outlook? Lookeen worked ok, but it is not all that great. Somehow it did not seem to find all the results, even after re-indexing.
I bought it for $39 and after the .NET framework upgrade (to v4.0) It stopped working and It fails to reinstall.
LOOKOUT was unbeatable but no longer works on Outlook 2007, even with the fixes provided on the web.
XOBNI is VERY bloated and has some annoying ads. I used for a couple of weeks and just got tired of it.
... I'm still on the lookout for another "lookout". T.E.DevarajanPosted: 07/06/2010 re: Is there a better way to search Outlook? I tried getMail from www.searchterrain.com. It is uncomplicated and fast. Joe SalazarPosted: 15/05/2010 re: Is there a better way to search Outlook? Wow I can't believe the amount of spamming that the reps of Lookeen are doing!! It completely turned me away from even trying their product. I respect when the author of a piece of software mentions his product without hiding his face just so that people know that it exists, but pretending to be clients saying wonderful things about their product is almost fraud!! How low can they get? Thomas KnudsenPosted: 03/04/2010 re: Is there a better way to search Outlook? I have developed a simple index tool for outlook. It stores its index in an access or MySQL database. You can download it from http://www.tasksystem.net. MikePPosted: 17/02/2010 re: Is there a better way to search Outlook? Surely the best way is prevention rather than cure?
I have set up some basic rules to redirect mail to folders so already i have more than halved my searches. You can even specify rules to be run on existing mail as well.
In folders you can use standard seach functions, title, word or phrase, date etc. and you can run searches in parallel across folders and drives, even archives.
In my job a paper trail and project history is a vital requirement; my (our) email history goes back nearly 10 years. Fantastic for g'tees and claims. JopowerPosted: 16/02/2010 Is there a better way to search Outlook Express? What options do we have to improve the dismal search options in Outlook and Outlook Express? Is there any way to search inside the message content or headers of my extensive messages for specific text or email adrs?
(But Outlook does do that sort of search. What version of Outlook do you have? You could try www.xobni.com -- it's a free product. -PZ) Whats with all the obvious Lookeen spamPosted: 29/01/2010 re: Is there a better way to search Outlook? Please don't buy lookeen. It is obvious they are abusing blogs and spamming. It is on virtually every office 2010 blog.
Show some integrity lookeen. If your sales people can't hold onto integrity how the hell is your product going to? swatiPosted: 17/05/2009 re: Is there a better way to search Outlook? pl show me the way to veiw the mails of the person who love in next door and has the lok on the mailing box Janus HansonPosted: 27/02/2009 Lookeen WallyPosted: 25/02/2009 re: Is there a better way to search Outlook? Xobni's search is by far the fastest and they offer file management and conversation threading too.

Paul ShortPosted: 26/08/2008 re: Is there a better way to search Outlook? Xobni is too big in Outlook and not really a working tool! I've tested all of them and at my opinion Lookeen works great - the index is very fast (with the newest version) and the tool is smart (it's just a toolbar in Outlook) and a real help.

In my opinion the best way to search fast and smart in Outlook 2003 or 2007. Runs on Vista, too! ColinPosted: 29/11/2007 re: Is there a better way to search Outlook? Does anyone know a simple ad in for outlook that will do quick searches like ISYS or Lookout, but do it within outlook and not in a separate application / window?
(Certainly. It's Google Toolbar. Free donwnload from Google. -PZ) BryanPosted: 23/10/2007 re: Is there a better way to search Outlook?
