How do I know what Outlook files to back up?

Saturday, 20 September, 2003

I'm using the backup program Second Copy to back up my data to CD in packet format. It would be useful to also back up my mail messages file from Outlook Express V5.5. I do this by specifying to Second Copy where the file is located. However, I haven't been able to find it. I'm using Windows 98se.

Anyone still using earlier versions of Internet Explorer and Outlook Express should consider updating to Version 6, which can be installed from the PC User cover CD's.

The correct procedure for backing up Outlook Express mail messages and other data can be found by following the guide contained in the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 270670

The store folder does not need to be placed on the Desktop, it can be anywhere you choose to put it. You can also use a program such as 'Second Copy' to save it to CD as well.
