Where can I get a phone antenna?

Tuesday, 09 February, 2010

Does anyone know where I can get an external antenna for my mobile Internet dongle?

I use Virgin which is normally pretty good but would like to try to get a little better strength.

Jay , , Australia

That has tro be a common need Jay.

I asked Virgin Mobile Australia to help and this is the reponse from Kevin Drieberg.
The most affordable I’ve found with online ordering is

And you could also check here.

Niote that these are not supported by Virgin Mobile.

As far as I am aware we do not stock as accessories through Retail / Direct channels.

Thanks Kevin.

re: Where can I get a phone antenna?
Thats's what i mean Paul. The other thing that amazes me is how we spend our money. No one wants to pay rent or phone bills, mobile or otherwise or spend money on fuel but when i see guys going into a bottle shop and coming out with top shelf spirits and 2 slabs of Fosters that would cost a fortune, they never seem to try and haggle to get a cheaper price. Out comes a couple of hundred bucks and they can't get out of the liquor store quickly enough. As i've said many times, if "some" company mirror imaged what Telstra do, were reliable and half the price, i would consider changing after doing quite a few checks. I'm a single man so i will never have the hassles of being a parent and i don't mind spending my money on things i like after i pay my bills. As you said Paul, it's a no brainer. I have never heard a good story about other carriers and when i get a mobile to mobile call, i can always tell who's using Telstra NextG and who isn't. The call quality gives it away and i never have trouble with NextG. The price of beer is always going up but after a few weeks, they still seem to buy it. Funny about that! Cheers Gang Andy.

re: Where can I get a phone antenna?
Jay. If your reception through Virgin is not what you would expect, i would look at the companies ability to supply a decent signal rather than trying to strengthen the signal with 3rd party hardware. I'm starting to sound like a parrot here but Telstra handle all my telephony and while it may be a bit more expensive, i just don't have the problems that people write in here about. You have to do your homework before you commit yourself to a 2 year contract however, if you do sign a contract, it works both ways. If Virgin cannot supply an adequate service, cancel your contract with them and look for a company that can. I've heard enough horror stories from friends and reading PC User to sign with another carrier. Also the hassle just isn't worth it. Yeah, Telstra are the most expensive company in most areas but you do get what you pay for. Cheers Andy :)

(Andy, from what I hear Telstra's NextG service is excellent in all respects -- except price. If that doesn't bother you then I guess it's a no-brainer. -PZ)
