Why won't my new scanner work?

Sunday, 04 March, 2001

i recently bought my first PC. When I tried to use the scanner for the first time it came up as "other error" then "error code 0x10ff0800 - unable to open TWAIN source please check connection then restart toolbox"

I checked all connections and they were all in order? My scanner is a Canoscan n340p and it was bought as a package with my Compaq Presario! Any help would greatly be appreciated thank you.

Was the scanner installed as part of the package, or did you install it when you go the system home? If the first is the case, then you could ask the dealer to get it going. If the second is the case, you might have to get it going yourself, but that depends on your confidence level. It sounds like the installation isn't complete or is corrupt. You'll probably have to uninstall the scanner (from Windows) and all the associated software, then install it again. Make sure you do it with the scanner connected by itself, without a printer, Get it going that way before you add the printer.

If you're still in trouble get back to us with a lot more detail.

re: Why won't my new scanner work?
The TWAIN drivers are not installed.
This usually does happen, when people buy a 'packaged' computer.
The person responsible for this is the Store's personel, not watching what they were doing when the OS was installed and, in doing so, loaded only half of the scanner's software requirements.
