Why do you spell ATHLON that way?

Monday, 18 November, 2002

Why do you spell Atherlon as "Athlon"? It really annoys me.

Astro Milty, Parkes, NSW

Because that's how it's spelled. Not only that, but it's a registered trademark of the manufacturer.

Perhaps you're getting confused because some people pronounce the "LON" as "ULLON", giving the word three syllables instead of two.

And of course, it isn't spelled Athalon either.

Maybe the manufacturers should listen to this guy. With all the hype and techno speak maybe they need to dumb things down a little.

From now on I'm going to refer to an Athlon CPU as Ug and an Intel CPU as Gup.

That should solve everything!

Maybe your getting confused between the current Athlon and the 64bit Athlon based on the hammer series which is also called an Opteron

Fools! Every techno geek knows there is a silent "e" written in 0.5 pixel font behind it. Properly it is Athlone, french for Athlon.
