How do I clear clipboard memory?

Thursday, 03 March, 2005

How can I clear my clipboard memory after copying/pasting large files? Do I need a utility or can Windows 98 do this for me?

If the former, can you recommend one please?

Thanks.

Maggie Herten, Yarraville, VIC

There’re any number of resourceful and innovative ways to clear the clipboard. Here’s one of the neatest ideas I’ve come across:
  • Open Notepad
  • Type a space
  • Highlight the space and choose ‘Copy’
  • Close Notepad without saving.

Your clipboard has been cleared of the large file and now contains just one character!

Perhaps our readers have other suggestions?

re: How do I clear clipboard memory?
for depth-related issues, try changing desktop depth to 16 (or something else) ... then back to your normal bit-depth. this worked for a situation i was in. clipbrd didnt have a solution.

re: How do I clear clipboard memory?
The easier way is to press 'Ctrl + R' OR Start > Run to get to the command prompt; type in 'clipbrd' to open up the clipboard viewer, then when focused on that application, press Delete and then Enter to confirm. This will clear the clipboard.

(In what operating system Harry? -PZ)

If you didn't install Clipbrd.exe, press Win+R, type in a space, select it and right-click to copy, press ESC.

re: How do I clear clipboard memory?
Just copy any file on the desktop or in the folder you have opened, that will not cost much memory of your PC

re: How do I clear clipboard memory?
Ever since I last used '98 (I'm now on XP Pro), I can remember opening Clipboard Viewer by going to Start > Programs > Accessories > Clipboard Viewer. I can remember that this small built-in program shows you what is in the clipboard. Have a look through the menus to clear the contents.

\WINDOWS\System32\Clipbrd.exe can also be found in Windows XP Pro! Running the utility and selecting File>Del will clear the clipboard.

re: How do I clear clipboard memory?
The MS Office clipboard is separate to the Windows clipboard.

The Windows clipboard viewer is present in Windows XP, but a shortcut is not created for launching it. You'll need to create your own entry on the Start menu for it. The file you need to point the entry to is:

\WINDOWS\System32\Clipbrd.exe

re: How do I clear clipboard memory?
Open an Office document Click EDIT > OFFICE CLIPBOARD then on the right hand side of the document you will see the Clipboard and it''s contents then click CLEAR ALL.
This works using Win XP using Office XP and Office 2003 but I am unsure in earlier versions of Office or Win98.
Terry would you know?
