Where can I get an 'azerty' keyboard?

Monday, 02 December, 2002

The individual keys of the keyboard I' m presently using regularly get stuck, causing various faults in typing, in deleting and so on.

As 'azerty' keyboards are not standard or regular item in Australia, could you tell me which company could supply me with a new azerty keyboard. Thanks

Raymond Ongenaert, Patterson Lakes, VIC

If I'm not wrong, all you'll have to do is plug in a keyboard that is similar to yours and change over those few keycaps that are different. That is, the structure of the keyboard is the same between QWERTY and AZERTY -- the difference is a few keys and the way the operating system interprets the keypresses. Just makes sure that the keys fit. (Will someone please correct me if I'm wrong - preferably in English, not French).

Have you tied cleaning the keyboard? Lever off all the keycaps, turn it upside down, tap (whack?) the whole assembly on the desk until no more food, pets and small children fall out, then turn it over and give everything a good vacuum. Some people have been known to give the assembly a spray with a silicone lubricant before replacing the keycaps, just to make sure the mechanisms don't stick.

For readers who don't know what an AZERTY keyboard is, it's simply a standard keyboard for French speaking PC users.

Hello Raymond,

By the way, do you have anything to do with a Raymond Ongenaert , who was my friend many years ago?

Don't lose your Cherry, get one! Voulez vous?! A-HA!!
Moi aussi!

Try getting a Cherry keyboard. Qu'est-ce que c'est? Not only are these excellently solid keyboards - you can buy key kits to change languages which cost un petit peu!

Follow this link s'il vous plait:-

Sacre bleu! If you give Cherry a call I'm sure there'll soon be no more crying in your croissants, and your old keyboard can finally meet its Waterloo! Zut alors!

Au revoir, tout le monde!

(Now Ian, haven't I asked you not to use that romantic foreign language stuff? -Paul Zucker :-)

Be Azerty-ive!
You could swap the keys around, the problem however is that other characters may be misplaced - The '$' may no longer belong above the '4' etc...

If you are capable of typing 'blind' - without having to look at the keyboard - just change your keyboard settings and type! Just don't look down!

I worked in Switzerland many years ago and found that to be a useful solution for an old qwertyite like me!

Alternatively, go to Ebay and pick up a keyboard from Europe instead!

Bon chance!
