I'm not Optimistic about Optus

Wednesday, 24 June, 2009

My mobile is with Yes Optus but where I work at Murrin Murrin the signal keeps dropping out.

Optus told me it was the Nokia phone that was faulty. Funny buggers that, when all people I talk to onsite with Optus mobiles can't get reliable signal and connection.

Optus are full of hot air. Those with Telstra get good signal strength. I must admit that 3 and Vodafone give you better deals and you get more calls within the call cap but I have heard from friends some nasty stories.

My contract is up soon and the house phone and mobile will be changed to another phone mob and definitely not Telstra either. Their reputation smells like dunny water.

Rob Morgan, , Australia

For every person who's happy with their phone carrier you'll find another who isn't Bob. Such is life.

(I'll leave it to the readers outside Australia and NZ to look up "Dunny" for themmsl;eves.)

re: I'm not Optimistic about Optus
I've moved house 3 times in the past 12 years...and, Telstra has always been there for me.
Why?
Because not only have I paid 'on time'...if I think I have a problem (or going to get one)...I ring them ASAP.
And, they always 'come to the party'.
Again, why?
Because they appreciate....being told 'how things are with me' (or you).
If they don't know, sorry, but I have to say it, this way....."How in Hell are they supposed to help you if they don't know what's going wrong?"
Being on a pension, I pay 'half-n-half'...of my monthly Telstra bills (Mobile/land-line/ADSL Internet)...every fortnight and, guess what?!
They (Telstra) are happy with that....because I have indeed been with them for so long. (Over 13 years.)
Like Carlos has said, "If you don't pay your bills....how can you expect to 'get something for nothing'?!"
Telstar doesn't owe you a life, nobody else either.
You racked up your Bills, nobody else did that for you......you pay them on time (or as near as you can)...to whoever your bills are with.
Ring them ...if you do strike trouble.....and do your very best to still pay them, with whatever you can afford.
It's all common-sense, really.

re: I'm not Optimistic about Optus
Hi Rob. The one thing that a lot of people do not understand is that Telstra (who used to be called Telecom Australia) were the only phone company around when i was born in 1961. Because of this, Telecom had the monopoly to charge what they wanted for all the services available at the time. They also had one other obvious advantage. They had the infrastructure in place to improve upon as technology progressed, something that a lot of new companies do not have. If you want to enter a market like this, you must be able to supply what the competition has. When Optus first shot out on the scene, if you wanted to use their system to make a call, you had to dial 1 then the number you were calling BUT you were still using Telstra's phone system. I'm not sure what Optus have done about duplicating their fixed and mobile services (i would have to look it up) but i've always paid my accounts to Telstra on time and because of the competition around now i get very good rates and service. As far as i'm concerned the other telco's just can't compete here because of our relatively small population which means that they cannot supply what they advertise. You have to weigh up all the pro's and con's. I like Telstra. They waived the last year of my mobile phones cost and give my mum good value for money. I bet if you could look at peoples bills or credit history, you'd see why they haven't stayed with Telstra. No company will tolerate not being payed. Would you provide a service for free? Cheers Andy :)

re: I'm not Optimistic about Optus
I am gonna answer this question, but it does make me wonder...is this a SERIOUS email.

Mr Morgan, you are not optimistic about Optus, you don't like Telstra, you've heard bad stories about 3 and Vodafone...there's noone left mate apart from Virgin. And there is a post on this site about how bad Virgin is too.

So what is left, the ISPs? They provide VOIP services by using Telstra equipment and you wont get a signal up in MM with an ISP if you cant get one with Optus.

While "Optus told me it was the Nokia phone that was faulty." is not seemingly helpful in your case, it can sometimes be the case. I just posted the other day that my Nokia n80 never had a problem EVER on Optus, yet my Palm Treo 750 sometimes cant find a signal on Telstra. And I only go around the Perth metro area.

Perhaps you need to contact the carriers to check which carrier has full coverage for MM. You can have that in writing and then if that is not the case have cause for complaint. If noone provides that coverage, well I guess youll just have to find another form of communication.

(Mind you Carlo - I can understand someone not liking any phone companies. -PZ)
