How does copper work?

Tuesday, 09 February, 2010

I am student reserach physic.

Study paper due FRIDAY.

How does copper work?

Especial wire.

Patel S, ,

I'm not sure what you're asking but I'll take a guess that your paper is on the electrical conduction properties of the metal copper.

That''s beyond us here but you should be able to start your reading on Wikipedia.

Copper

Electrical Conductivity

Good luck

Basically, Patel, you shove electrons in one end of a copper wire and they come out the other, where you can do things with them. But you need to insulate the wire with something electrons don't like, or they jump ship before they finish their journey.

re: How does copper work?
Another bit of trivia.
OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) is better than standard copper wire as it has less resistance per meter and takes longer to oxidise (go green).

Widly used for quality speaker cabling over longer runs and patch cords as it is also more conductive, but remember longer runs will also require a heavier gauge bearing in mind current and resistance per meter.

There are formulaes for working this out and when in doubt just use a decent figure eight lamp cable with good shielding which is quite cheap with good results.

You have to be pretty much a audiophile to hear the difference but it definatly gives a cleaner crisper sound at higher levels through your speakers.

(No, if you've paid the big dollars I'm sure you'll hear the difference Frank. No-one else will, but YOU will. -PZ)

I would also have thought that a student of physics, would have already been given some study notes to which they could refer as part of thair course.
