Is there a KVM Switch that supports DVI video?
Sunday, 14 December, 2003
I have two PC's with video cards that have DVI ports. I'd like to purchase an Apple Cinema HD-LCD 20 inch display. What hardware would I need to add so that I can use the display with either computer, and a single mouse and keyboard?

Nice monitor. Seriously, nice monitor. I'm drooling.
There's a discussion topic about using one with a PC in Apple's Discussion Forum and a further detailed discussion in the linked topic at SFFTech Forums. As mentioned in the discussion, the monitor should have an Apple ADC adaptor bundled with it which allows connection to DVI interface. If there isn't actually one included, a suitable Gefen converter can be purchased. Its details can be found on Apple's website.
To use the display shared between two PCs, and using only one keyboard and mouse, you'll need to purchase a DVI KVM switch (Keyboard, video, mouse). A suitable one might be this Microgram Product. No leads are included with the KVM switch, but they can be purchased from MicroGram as well.
Alternatively, the more attractive products from Belkin, such as the OmniView SOHO could be used, but as it's a VGA switch you would also need to add DVI/VGA converters to the list of purchases.
Also see What is a DVI Port and what can I do with it?.
I'm sure you'll soon be enjoying that new monitor.
