Where can I buy a DVI-D cable in Australia?
Monday, 20 January, 2003
Recently I have purchased a TFT monitor and I was wondering if there are any places in Australia that sell the DVI-D cables?
I checked out quite a few sites in Oz but I couldn't find anyone that sells them. I did check a couple of sites in America and the cables are available over there.
Just writing in hoping that you might be able to put me onto the right links.
Thanks

For the sake of other readers, DVI stands for Digital Video Interface. A DVI-D is used for direct digital connections between source video (namely, video cards) and digital LCD or CRT monitors.
See What is a DVI Port and what can I do with it?
In Australia, they seem to be mainly supplied with the LCD display. Eventually there will be local places that sell these cables alone.
But for now, you may have to import them direct, unless someone knows of a good local components shop?
If you feel uncomfortable about ordering yourself, it might be worth having a local distributor organize this for you -- for a premium.
As a first step, I'd try the local offices of some of companies that manufacture these screens give. For example,
Hitachi Australia
Phone: 1800 032 689
Fax: (02) 9888-4155
A Google search on DVD-D cable site:au gives plenty of hits, including Harris Technology which lists these cables, all around $200 each.
This information comes from the HT site.

(Yeah, it was a bit of a giveaway Ian, but HT came up in our web search so we gave them the credit. And that BlackBox catalogue makes good winter reading doesn't it. -Paul Zucker)
