Should I get a Matrox DVI add-on card?
Monday, 27 November, 2000
I bought a new PC a few months ago with a Matrox G400 video card and a Phillips Brilliance 150P flat monitor. An add-on card has just become available for the Matrox, which claims to allow DVI digital-to-digital interface between PC and monitor. Is this worth getting?
Rod Crow, ,
Standard video output from a video card is analogue, and is ideal for CRT monitors.
The DVI connection and daughterboard for the Matrox G400 provides a digital connection between the video board and the flat LCD monitor, bypassing a digital/analogue conversion in the video board and an analogue/digital conversion in the monitor. In theory it should give a better image than the analogue connection.
PC User has not tested this combination and thus can't make judgements on visual quality or value for money.
Why not contact a Matrox dealer who could then demonstrate the add-on card in use. Only then can you decide if you can detect the visual improvement (if any) and if it is value for money for you.
