Can I record VHS videos on my PC?

Saturday, 26 May, 2001

Is there a method and or device that I can connect a VCR to the PC so that the PC can record a VHS tape and store on the PC to be viewed through a PC media player or burnt to CD as a VCD ???

Yes, but you need some gear.

Put simply, you need a video capture card, a reasonably fast PC, lots of hard disk space and some software. Check back through HelpStation for related questions and answers.

A minimum setup would be a TV Tuner card (including basic video capture). That would cost little more than $100 if you shop well. If you have Windows ME you can use the Movie Maker to capture the video to a file.

yes I bought a belkin videobus2 which attaches to your usb2 port I run xp on my computer and it finds the hardware and you install the drivers wich come with the belkin I also have ulead dvd moviefactory 3 on my computer but be warned it takes about 3 to 4 hours to copy it to your hard drive and then render it to burn to a dvd from your dvd burner after that you are able to watch it on your home dvd player. so far i have done a dozen old 8mm movies for my dad and they turned out well
