A great-quality 27in multimedia screen for not a lot of cash.

There’s something to be said for the increasing commoditisation of PC products. It seems like only yesterday that good-quality 27in LCD screens were a rare luxury, but now practically every vendor has a big monitor going cheap. That said, with prices plummeting all over, quality can be a bit hit and miss. The AOC E2752PHZ, however, is a 1080p 27in screen selling for around $400, though you’d be hard pressed to tell it's price, with even LED backlighting, bright colours and plenty of detail evident across our test gamut of games, media and productivity.

AOC is a low-cost vendor accustomed to producing good gear at relatively low margins. And while we wouldn’t necessarily use this screen for for colour-critical work — with a TN panel and midtones that are ever-so-slightly too bright, it’s not quite suited to serious photo editing — we’d happily recommend it for day-to-day, and especially multimedia, use. In that respect, passable built-in speakers add appeal, as does 3D capability and bundled glasses. We were also pleased with solid, understated industrial design and an updated onscreen display.

No doubt there are better 27in screens out there — Dell’s excellent U2711 offers a higher native resolution and superior colour fidelity for those who need them — but at this price, it’s hard to go past AOC’s solid effort here.
