From:
Motorola
Available from Telstra on contract from $59 per month or for $299 outright pre-paid
Verdict:
Oddly sluggish performance, but an affordable prepaid option for those who need a tough phone.

The original Motorola Defy’s selling proposition was that it was a water-resistant, dust-proof and scratch-resistant Android phone. It initially had Telstra’s Blue Tick approval (meaning it should work well in regional Australia), but that was revoked later in its service life. The new Defy+ gets the Blue Tick back, as well as slightly upgraded innards, including a 1GHz processor and Android 2.3.

Externally this is exactly the same phone, so it's on the small side by today's smartphone standards, with 3.7in screen. Compared to last year’s model, however, the screen response time of the Defy+ was often sluggish. It’s hard to tell if this is the fault of the CPU, Motorola’s MOTOBLUR interface or the screen protection itself, but whatever the cause, the effect is that it's not quite as snappy as we remember the original Defy being.

The Defy+ is still a robust phone and a decent choice for those who are either unfortunately brutal on smartphones or work in environments that are harsh on them. If you’re after a power phone, though, this isn’t it. On the upside, the Defy+ is available from Telstra as prepaid option for just $299 outright.

My first smartphone and i am enjoying it. Sometimes it is a bit slow when you touch the screen but sometimes i think it is just me learning how to touch it. so far so good - and I got if for Christmas.

Needed a phone with the blue tick - so not much choice in my price range.
