Verdict:
A handy way to add storage to a variety of devices, as long as you don’t need Wi-Fi at the same time.

The GoFlex Satellite looks identical to Seagate’s previous GoFlex drives at first glance, but the presence of a power button and Wi-Fi lights shows its particular purpose: it’s a 500GB Wi-Fi drive with an inbuilt battery and support for sharing to iOS and Android devices. The Satellite acts as a Wi-Fi access point and allows you to browse its contents via either Seagate’s free apps or more simply from a web browser. It’s a decent way to add a lot of storage to your phone or tablet, but it’s not without its quirks. Most annoyingly, there’s no way to access a secondary Wi-Fi service while connected to the Satellite, so your mail and web browsing is halted while you’re using it. It’ll work with up to three clients simultaneously, but we found that any more than two had the tendency to make the Satellite unresponsive and require a reboot. The Satellite and Kingston Wi-Drive below service the same kinds of markets, but neither is perfect. The Satellite is the more flexible option, working with Android and offering a lot more storage for your money, but the trade-off is in limited Wi-Fi flexibility.
