Sony Ericsson's Xperia Arc S is an upgrade to the original Xperia Arc and that’s not a terribly old phone, all things considered. This hasn’t given Sony Ericsson that much time to alter the Xperia Arc formula. What you get with the Xperia Arc S is a slight processor bump (from 1GHz to 1.4GHz), slight battery bump and the inclusion of a 3D panorama shooting mode. It’s still got the same pleasant-to-hold curved shape of the original Xperia Arc and this is still its best feature.
The 3D panorama mode is managed from a single camera, but the 4.2in screen isn't 3D-capable, so you’ve got to hook it up to a 3D panel to check your shots. This means you’ll take (as we did) plenty of dud shots and not know it at the time if you choose to shoot in 3D. It’s also HD voice capable, which not too many of Telstra’s phones are.
The Xperia Arc S is a Telstra exclusive for those looking for a contract, although it's also available from $400 outright (at the time of posting) from importers such as Mobicity and Kogan. It’s certainly not the best Android phone you can get right now, but it's a decent buy.
